Access Audits and Research
It is important to know what you have got and what works or doesn't work before you make any changes. An access audit will review what is currently in place and give recommendations which will be prioritised enabling organisations to make appropriate changes to their buildings, practices and procedures.
What areas need to be reviewed for accessibility?
- All areas accessible to members of the public - particularly point-of-contact, whether that is personal, phone or electronic.
- All literature, brochures, production information and advertising material - application forms, staff information and notice boards.
- Communication - verbal or non-verbal - is it working?
- Attitude - are you giving a positive image?
- Policy and procedures - do they reflect best practice?

Researching the views and perceptions of your staff and customers helps to identify key drivers and can help organisations understand where they are in terms of equality and diversity. The data collected confidentially will give honest feedback and can highlight people's satisfaction, priorities, motivators and different expectations. This gives a springboard for implementing change. if you know where you are, it is possible to plan how to move to where you want to be, and what actions you need to take to get your organisation, staff and customers there.
